travel update the eighth

hello from the beautiful city of bath!

a quick catch up on the last couple of days - mostly in photo form (again) :)

we had a lovely last morning in stratford-upon-avon. we visited the beautiful churchyard of the holy trinity church

saj and giselle enjoying the tranquility of the church yard while looking out over the avon

this may or may not have been shakespeare's grave...

then it was time for a last stroll through the rsc gardens...

a farewell kiss for mr tennant...

and we drove to bath - we took a stroll around in the evening light and it was really beautiful

today we have been wandering happily around bath -

the magnificent 'royal crescent'

tea in the royal crescent hotel garden. v posh.

me, sitting on the lawn with my tea at the royal crescent hotel

the ancient roman bathsl, from which the city draws its name

having a quiet sit at the baths

i really love this city. it's so old and so majestic, and it's easy to imagine yourself right into a jane austen novel here. am very tired now, though, so i won't ramble any more. big kisses to you all xoxoxoxox

I have SO enjoyed your trip! I feel like I get all the best parts without the tiring stuff, lol. Thanks so much for sharing this great journey with me, and everyone else. The dress bodice there is amazing! And lets think about how much funky sex went down at the baths when people weren't paying attention, or when they were ^.^

i'm glad you're enjoying the photos :)

I was just there! (In Bath, that is). Okay, so it was like two months ago now, but it feels like I was just there.

Also, my mom is making snide remarks because you guys take nice photos and she doesn't approve of my "tourist photos." If making dumbass faces at the camera and posing like a monkey on speed is wrong, then I don't want to be right!

monkey on speed! i knew there was an angle i was missing! expect such photos from paris!

*mwah*

I'm glad you're both having such a wonderful time.

Have been meaning to message you for ages, but let me know if you're spending any time in London and have time to catch up - my number is +44 79 1700 0018.

[identity profile] dear-prudence.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
hi sweetie! long time no hear! loved seeing you in the photos from it and beau's wedding :)
we're not in london for long, but if we get a spare second i'll cal you - what's the number without the funky area codes and stuff?

[identity profile] gus1111.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a huge joy to be able to be at Kit and Beau's wedding - particularly as I knew I was representing so many people back home who would have loved to be there.

Without the area codes, you should be able to reach me on 079 1700 0018 (its a mobile).

Have fun,

Gus

Hello my darlings! I got your postcard today, Essie! Thank you! :D

Did you know I have performed at Bath Abbey? On a school music tour. It was beautiful. Before one rehearsal, I remember playing some of the Bach cello suits in one of the lower rooms and the sound just echoing through the space - it was incredible. It felt like playing the music in the place it was meant to be played in, ie. as Bach originally intended it. It was very memorable.

But the whole place is just gorgeous - as your photos show. It looks like you're having a wonderful time! :D

oh good - i'm glad to hear that at least some of my postcards are making it home! :)
it must have been so wonderful to play in bath abbey! the choir was practicing while we were in there and the sound was just lovely.
we are having a wonderful time, but we're looking forward to seeing you again when we get home x

WOW!!!

Who needs to buy books to read a well-written adventure, travel and nature journal?
It's all here.

I'm glad you are having the most amazing time.

Love you both xoxoxoxox

hi roz!
i wish there was a bit more of the 'well written' about my ramblings, but i'm usually just rushing to get things down!
we are having an amazing time, but we miss you lots. will you be coming to melb any time soon??

Jane Austen Museum??? Jealous!! Want! :O

[identity profile] dear-prudence.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
it was pretty cool - they had one of her letters in a frame. her actual handwriting right there in front of me. it was hard to fathom, really.

Your photos are amazing, Es. And I'm so in awe of your ability to take time out from your wonderful holiday to sit in front of a laptop and blog this all back to us! (Although I presume it's more for your benefit than it is actually ours...:P)

I am completely taking my laptop along with me next time I'm on an O/S trip - it would be soooooooooooooo much easier to blog adventures and manage pics with your own around.

[identity profile] dear-prudence.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
bringing the laptop was definitely a good plan. there's no way i'd be able to do this without it. and it's good to be able to put photos on here and sort them and stuff, rather than having to have 50 memory cards!

the blogging side is partly for myself and saj, and partly to share with you guys. i like that it has the dual function! :)

awesome stuff! looking forward to seeing you tomorrow, however briefly. i've just got the internet going on my laptop! yay! so i'm catching up with the world, one blog at a time. missing youse!

hey, sweetie! we miss you too! glad to hear you got connected there. makes things easier, doesn't it? we are aiming to get to finchley at around 11am (depending on traffic and the reliability of google maps' estimations we may be earlier, but hopefully not later). will give you big cuddles then!
